There are so many different microclimates related to different soil typologies in the area of “Terra delle Gravine”.
The vineyards are located in various districts of Mottola, approximately 3-4 km away from the winery.
The grapes for Petruscio (rosé wine by Primitivo grapes), Matìn (pet-nat by Minutolo grapes) and Verdeca (white wine) come from “Contrada Matine”, in the north of Mottola. There the climate is very cool and windy. The soils are mostly silt and have a significant presence of stone. The harvested grapes give expressive, fresh and very drinkable wines.
The grapes for the Primitivo (red wine) come from Contrada Caragnano, in the east of Mottola. There the soil has a clayey-loam nature. Also it is more fertile, very deep with a sporadic presence of stone. The grapes harvested give more structured wines, with an excellent polyphenolic content.
The grapes for Amforeas (orange wine by Trebbiano grapes), Occhio di Sole (Malvasia) and Trabaco (red wine from Sangiovese grapes) come from Contrada Selvapiana, in the north-west of Mottola. That soil is clayey, fertile and very hard to work. The grapes harvested are very suitable for red vinification, as the skins reach excellent phenolic ripeness.
